Caliber's talented leadership team is comprised of seasoned executives with backgrounds ranging from online advertising, technology development and e-commerce to financial services and operational analytics.

 

Lee Wang, Ph.D. - Founder & CTO

Lee is the co-founder of Caliber Data and serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Wang brings to Caliber a deep understanding of online advertising fundamentals and offline merchant behavior as a result of his years of extensive research and industry experience in this space. His work (at MS Ad Center), resulted in many important developments for his employer, including patents (issued and pending). After spending time as an independent consultant, Dr. Wang founded Caliber Data with the mission of bringing to market an innovative and paradigm shifting online advertising service. Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 1997 and also holds MS and BSEE degrees. He holds a number of U.S. patents (issued and pending) and has professional publications in areas of online advertising, data mining, parallel and distributed computing.


Jon Karlin - Founder, President & CEO

Karlin’s career spans more than 23 years in leadership roles within the IT industry. Prior to co-founding Caliber Data, Inc., Karlin served as Director of Linux Competitive Strategy for Microsoft Corp., Redmond, WA. In this position, he was responsible for developing strategic and market execution programs and driving roll-out across Microsoft’s global subsidiaries to position Windows Server as the preferred Unix migration path for enterprise level data centers. His responsibilities also included driving executive briefings, press and analyst relations, and the negotiation of teaming and joint investment agreements with industry leading companies such as, Intel Corp., AMD, Hewlett Packard, Unisys and Siemens AG. Prior to Microsoft, Karlin served as president and CEO of several successful technology companies including ZyLAB, the PC industry’s first text and information retrieval software. During his 14 year tenure at ZyLaB, he developed a strong and diverse set of skills spanning business plan and strategy development, product design, enterprise and government sales cycle management and leading the defense of intellectual property during protracted federal court proceedings. Karlin also planned and executed successful global marketing campaigns, generated successive rounds of private investment capital, negotiated several mergers and acquisitions involving private companies and successfully completed international technology licensing and asset sale agreements. Karlin was also co-founder and CEO of Washington DC based government systems integrator, Progressive Technologies, Inc., during which time he also served as a special advisor (under contract) to the World Bank to provide expertise in very high volume microfilm to digital media conversion projects. Karlin also served as VP Business Development of Avatar, Inc., developer of high volume document capture and filing systems (acquired by Bell and Howell), and as VP Business Development of Dozuki.com (a B2C web portal service). He also served as VP Business Development at [HELP] Systems, Inc., a software development, training and IT services provider supporting statistical process control programs at the US Navy at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Facilities in Norfolk, VA.


Marji Ranes - Vice President, Sales & Marketing

Marji brings over 30 years of broad experience in product development, content, and sales & marketing in leading media companies to the table. She has a background that includes extensive management and leadership experience as a Publisher, General Manager and Executive Vice President at Knight-Ridder, Gannett, AT&T Wireless, Lee Enterprises and several large privately held companies. Although her past responsibilities include positions in major metropolitan markets, her philosophy is that the media voice which will be most successful in the future is targeted, localized and very much driven by the user. This is reflected in her most recent experience, which includes the successful launch of the Arizona Republic's community newspapers in the southeast valley of Phoenix as well as the design, launch, content plan and advertising sales implementation of www.gowestusa.com. Marji has been a frequent instructor at the American Press Institute in Washington DC, the largest communications media training center and think tank in the country. She graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in journalism and was the editor of the college daily in her senior year.



Joby Gram - Director, Sales & Marketing

Joby serves as Caliber Data’s Director of Sales & Marketing. Prior to joining Caliber, Gram was the founder and CEO of Elite Capital, a Seattle-based online real estate finance & investment firm. During his tenure there, Gram developed several innovative approaches to behavioral marketing through online and traditional channels for real estate speculators, developers and investors. Before that, Gram worked in a variety of roles for Amazon.com including digital marketing, where he helped to roll out Amazon's first affiliate marketing program, business development, project management, and logistical analytics. Mr. Gram earned his BA in Finance and Management from the University of Washington where he graduated Cum Laude.
